- One of my favorite quilt blocks is the Carpenter’s Wheel! It consists of a total of 64 squares, many of which are half square triangles (HSTs). I will be demonstrating with two charm packs (a plain color charm pack for my background and a print charm pack), as well as showing examples of how to finish the block as a quilt with various border styles.
For this block you will need (32) 5” background squares and (32) 5” print squares. The prints can be scrappy or one color way that contrasts with the background. The squares can be any size as long as they are all the same. The quickest way to make this block is to use precuts, but you can certainly cut the yardage fabric you have on hand. The finished size of this block will be 32” square without borders. After borders are added it would be a great cuddle care or baby quilt.
Sewing supplies needed are: sewing machine, thread to match your fabric, sewing needle (a fresh one before a new project is always good!), marking pen or pencil, and a pair of fabric scissors. I always have a seam ripper handy, you just never know…
