Quilters’ Day Out (QDO) is an annual gathering of the Kentucky Heritage Quilt Society’s District 6 guilds to celebrate our love of all things quilting. This year’s QDO was held at Paroquet Springs Conference Center in Shepherdsville on Saturday, February 22.
Louisville NimbleThimbles always has a guild booth and a boutique at QDO. At the LNT Booth members share with other attendees the things we have done at meetings throughout the previous year. Susan W. usually shows a technique with instructions on how to do it. This year’s technique was the 3-D Pinwheel Block. It’s always fun to visit with other guilds and quilters and share the things we love about LNT.
Samples of many of our different projects were displayed, including a Bargello Quilt, Fusible Grid Table Runner, Clothesline Bowl, Steering Wheel Cover, Photo to Art Quilting, Quilt As You Go, Kite Quilt, Wonky Square Blocks, Quilt of Valor, and Cuddle Care Quilts. In addition to all the classes where we learned techniques, we had presenters, outings and other fun activities you can read about in our blog.
LNT has our only fundraiser, the LNT Boutique, at Quilters’ Day Out. Donated items are collected throughout the year and sold at very reasonable prices to QDO attendees. The proceeds help provide funding for our instructional programs, community efforts with Cuddle Care and Maryhurst, hosting the annual Children’s Quilt Show, and other activities throughout the year. Thanks to Debbie and Terrie for co-chairing the boutique this year; it was the most successful one yet! Just look at all the goodies we had for sale!
This year LNT had an additional booth in the vendor room. Last year the Cuddle Care Committee made a quilt which won ribbons at last year’s QDO and Kentucky State Fair. The committee decided they would raise money for our Cuddle Care efforts by selling tickets to raffle the quilt. At the same booth, members of the Children’s Quilt Show Committee shared information about the Children’s Quilt Show LNT is sponsoring this coming July.
Two of our members won ribbons for the QDO Challenge “Log Cabin Block”. Awards were given in three categories: Traditional, Modern, and Art. Kim won first in Traditional and third in Art. Susan H. won 2nd in Art. Congratulations!
Two of our newer LNT members won door prizes! Becky P. won a basket prepared by “By The Inch” and Barb won a Brother sewing machine from “Sewing and Vacuum Authority”!
It was an exciting day from beginning to end. Thanks to all our members for their hard work in preparing before QDO, working at the booth or boutique during the day, and helping clean up when it was all over. It was a most enjoyable and successful day!
Piecefully yours,
Luann
